231 candidates running for the parliament on the lists of political parties hold dual citizenship or submitted documents to get a second citizenship. Most of them are on the lists of the Liberal Party, of the Liberal Democratic Party, of the Moldova Noastra Alliance and of the European Action Movement, say members of the an NGO coalition called “The Civic Control – Elections 2009.” The observers announced their data Thursday while presenting the third monitoring report for the period March 1-12, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The coalition plans to monitor the process of renouncing dual citizenship after the elections, too,” said Alexandru Barbov, the executive manager of the coalition.
Barbov has said that, a series of political parties sent hundreds of thousands of letters on the occasion of the International Women's Day on March 8. “The coalition hopes that the costs related to this drive will be included into the financial reports on the election race,” said the executive manager of the coalition. He is concerned that the parties have access to data from the Population Registry of Moldova, since the letters were sent to exact addresses.
Alexandru Sabadas, a member of the coalition, says he saw banners of the AMN on web sites (play.md or unimedia.md), without the notice “Paid from the electoral fund.”
The members of the coalition warn that the staff in some Moldovan diplomatic missions consists from 2-3 people. “This fact runs counter the law, as the number of polling station judges shall not be less than 5 and no bigger than 11,” Barbov said.
When presenting their second report, the members of the coalition warned about some parliamentarians using state cars to travel about the country for electoral purposes, but they have not got any official answer from the parliament so far.
