Election results: 58 votes for, three against and an invalid ballot

The special commission for the organization of the presidential elections made public the results of the voting sooner than it initially announced.
The only presidential candidate Marian Lupu polled 58 votes in favor. Three lawmakers voted against, while one ballot was declared invalid.
The head of state is elected by at least 61 votes.
New elections will be called within 30 days.
The voting procedure started at 15.40 and was to close in two hours. The Communist MPs did not take part in the elections.
