The campaign prior to the July 11, 2021 snap parliamentary elections cost all the election contenders over 43.3 million lei, IPN reports, quoting the Central Election Commission.
According to the electoral legislation, the contenders that opened an “Electoral Fund” account were obliged to present weekly reports on campaign funding to the CEC.
There were opened 18 such bank accounts. Five election competitors informed that they didn’t open an “Electoral Fund”, while the contender Ecologist Green Party didn’t open such an account, but received donations in another form.
There were registered 3,484 donors, 3,019 of whom were private individuals from Moldova, 409 were private individuals from outside the country, while 56 were legal entities.
Under the legislation, the contenders can raise interest-free loans, but no contestant in the current election campaign took out such loans.
To see to what extent the parties obey the financing rules and to verify the donations, the CEC asked for information from the Public Procurement Agency, the State Tax Service and the National House of Social Insurance.
