An 81-year-old woman from Căușeni town suffered second- and third-degree burns after trying to light the fire in the stove using a highly flammable substance. According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the flammable substance used by the elderly woman triggered an explosion, causing serious burns on the woman's body. The victim was rushed to the Căușeni District Hospital and was admitted to the intensive care unit, IPN reports.
The Inspectorate reiterates the importance of complying with the fire safety rules and warns that the use of substances, such as gasoline, oil or lamp gas, to stat the fire in stoves is strictly prohibited as they can cause explosions or fires. Specialists recommend using only fuels intended for stoves, such as wood or coal, and avoiding overheating the stoves.
Firefighters also draw attention to the risks of excessive use of walnut shells as fuel, which can cause explosions. Citizens are urged to help the elderly in managing heating sources in order to prevent fires.
The 1,527 fires that occurred in Moldova so far this year resulted in 90 deaths, with three of the victims being children. In the last 24 hours, rescuers and firefighters dealt with 27 risk situations.
