Elderly woman perishes in house fire in Pănășești

A woman aged 78 from Pănășești village of Strășeni district died in a fire in her home in the morning of January 15. According to preliminary reports, the woman suffered carbon monoxide poisoning, IPN reports.

The call to the 112 service was made close to 9am. The fire was liquidated in approximately an hour and a half. According to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, the stove was built incorrectly and was also used incorrectly and a fire occurred as a result.

Contacted by IPN, mayor of Pănășești Valeriu Bujoreanu said the woman lived alone and her children visited her and looked after her.

The General Inspectorate for Emergencies said the 92 fires that happened in Moldova so far this year claimed 18 lives.

Firefighters warn the population about the risk of fires following the overheating and overuse of stoves. There should be a sufficient distance between the stove and flammable objects. The stoves should not be covered with mattresses or other material that can catch fire.
