Elderly people to receive financial aid on International Day of Older Persons

On the International Day of Older Persons, observed on October 1, manifestations, charitable meals, and concerts dedicated to this day will take place in all of the country’s districts and municipalities. The State Budget allocated 5 million lei in material aid for elderly people. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga stated that, in the Municipality of Chisinau, the State Budget will allocate 1000 one-time packages of financial aid for people aged 80 and above, who have the smallest pensions and did not receive any financial aid this year. The elderly from Chisinau will receive 350 lei as financial aid. The Minister added that, on this day, elderly homes throughout the country will launch the “Solidarity Garden” action, during which trees, bushes and flowers will be planted by elderly people, as well as youth and public employees. In October 1990, during the 45th UN General Assembly meeting, it was decided to designate October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons. Moldova started celebrating this day in 1992. At the moment, the elderly make up about 20% of the population of Moldova.
