Eighth Festival “Days of Creanga” underway in Chisinau

Today and tomorrow Chisinau is hosting the eighth Festival “Days of Creanga” that is staged before the birthday of Romanian writer Ion Creanga. Until March 4, the events held as part of the Festival will continue in Romania’s Iasi, Tirgu-Neamt and Pipirig, IPN reports.

In Chisinau, the program started at the Lyceum “Prometeu” with the play “Waiting for fairytales” that is presented by students of the institution. At 11:30am, the Institute of Philology of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova will host the scientific conference “Ion Creanga’s works in contemporaneity”. Reports will be presented by researchers from Moldova and Romania. At 2:30pm, the Theoretical Lyceum “Ion Creanga” will host the Gala of Laureates of the School Festival “Ion Creanga with relatives”.

On February 28, the program will continue at the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga”. The artistic marathon “Gala of Creanga’s Characters” that will involve teachers and students of a number of lyceums of Chisinau will start at 10:30am. There will be awarded prizes for the promotion of Ion Creanga’s works. At 2pm, third-ninth graders will compete in the second contest of storytellers “Lets speak about childhood better”.

During the next few days, Iasi will host a series of events, at the Museum “Bojdeuca lui Ion Creanga” (“Ion Creanga’s Rural House”), Palace of Children and Golia Church. Plays and conferences involving writers, researchers, people of arts and students will take place in Tirgu-Neamt and Pipirig.

Ion Creanga was born on March 1, 1837. He is considered one of the classical writers of the Romanian literature owing to his biographical work “Childhood Memories”.
