Eight settlements in the Security Zone will renovate their social institutions. They were selected in the second round of the contest of social infrastructure projects held by the joint UNDP-EU program in December 2012 – January 2013, IPN reports, quoting a press release from the UNDP.
The settlements Corjova, Molovata Noua, Cocieri, Sanatauca, Rascaieti, Cosnita, Copanca, and Varnita were chosen by the UNDP-EU program’s assessment committee based on the projects submitted for the contest.
The contest involved 52 Security Zone settlements that presented 68 project proposals. Viorel Albu, manager of the UNDP-EU program’s Community Development component, said the wining projects are mainly projects to renovate kindergartens, schools, and social and health centers, to reconstruct community markets and to rehabilitate water supply systems. The eight winning projects will start to be implemented this year, while the communities will benefit not only from financial support, but also from technical and logistic assistance from the program “Support to Confidence Building Measures”.
The 27 projects selected in the first round of the contest are under implementation. Their budget is about US$3.6 million. At least 40 social infrastructure projects are to be carried out within the program.
Implemented by UNDP Moldova, the program “Support to Confidence Building Measures” for 2012-2015 has a total budget of €10.6 million, which is provided by the EU (€9.5 million) and UNDP Moldova (€1.1 million).
