Eight persons were proposed for the post of member of the Central Election Commission (CEC). A bill to this effect was put forward by Democratic MP Raisa Apolschii, who heads the legal commission for appointments and immunities. The bill is to be examined in the April 13 meeting of the Cabinet, IPN reports.

According to the bill, the candidates are: Veaceslav Agrigoroae, Rodica Ciubotaru, Vasile Gafton, Sergiu Gurduza, Maxim Lebedinschi, Eduard Raducan, Alina Russu, and Andrei Volentir.

The term in office of the CEC members expired in February and was extended so that new local elections could be held until May in several communities. The ninth member of the CEC is named by the Head of State.
