Eight more Moldovans evacuated from Gaza Strip

Eight more citizens of Moldova who sought help with their evacuation from the Gaza Strip have left the territory and are currently in the care of the Moldovan consular official in Egypt. This was announced by the Moldovan foreign minister Nicu Popescu during a press conference on Wednesday.

To date, 45 Moldovan citizens have been evacuated from the Gaza Strip. The first group of 36 citizens arrived home on a flight made available by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and later 9 other citizens were evacuated on a ship organized by the Ukrainian authorities. Popescu promised the Ministry will provide more details about the evacuation of the latest group of 8 Moldovans when they arrive home.

From the first days of the war, the Ministry posted additional consular officials in Israel to consolidate the capacities of the Moldovan Embassy. A consular official was also posted in Egypt, so that maximum cooperation and cooperation could be ensured on the Egyptian side as well. “We also made a substantial diplomatic effort to convince the relevant actors in the regions that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova should be on the same lists that are approved daily for evacuation from the Gaza Strip, and here we cooperated very actively with the authorities of Israel, Egypt, the United States, Turkey and Qatar”, said the minister.

“Also in this region and on this level, we continued and intensified our discussions with Israeli airlines and in recent weeks, with the support of our Embassy in Israel and the Moldovan civil aviation authorities, we managed to attract three more airlines from Israel that are about to launch or have already launched flights in our country”, Popescu added.
