In the morning of Easter, when the table is laid, light taken from the church shines in the house. The smallest ones wash their face with a red egg and a white egg so that they are healthy, while the eldest members of the family give them yellow coins so that they become rich. At the morning meal, everyone must eat blessed food such as red eggs, cheese, and mutton. All the members of the family should eat blessed food during three consecutive days. The ethnographer said that leftovers are not thrown away. “In some settlements, the people try to keep the shells whole and put them on branches of trees in the orchard. The colored shells make a nice picture,” said Varvara Buzila. On the first Easter day, the family comes together, while on the second day they make visits. The youngest ones go to the eldest ones, the children go to parents. They pay respect visits and give them presents. Earlier, they used to stage concerts in villages and danced Romanian round dances. Everyone tries to go home on Easter and exchange presents with the members of the family. Varvara Buzila said that the families reunite on Easter and try to be together on Low Sunday as well as this day for the faithful means a lot because they can show their attitude towards the dear ones who passed away.
