Egg prices have halved

The eggs got almost two times cheaper. Ion Bizgu, director of one of the largest poultry breeding companies “Avicola Moldova”, has told IPN that the prices deceased following the saturation of the market. Another factor, which is not so important, is the slight reduction in demand during Lent, when many Christians do not eat meat, eggs and milk.

Ion Bizgu said the eggs grow dearer or cheaper depending on the demand and supply. As the eggs have a short shelf life, the producers prefer to sell them cheaper rather than to throw them.  “The eggs are not gravel and cannot be stored up. The necessity of money and the short shelf life of eggs led to a decline in prices,” he stated.

A week ago, the eggs were sold for 11-12 lei ten pieces at the market, while in stores for up to 16 lei. Today the producers sell them for 6-6.5 lei.
