The prices of eggs have almost halved. At specialized shops, ten eggs could be earlier bought for at most 22 lei, but now these cost 13.5 lei. Producers say the prices are influenced by the overproduction of eggs and the decline in exports.
Contacted by IPN, director general of the state-run scientific production company “Avicola-Moldova” Ion Bazgu said that unlike other agrifood producers, the egg producers are more flexible and set the prices depending on the consumers’ budget too. The prices are also influenced by the lower exports of eggs, which were mainly sold to Iraq and Syria. The export of eggs to the two countries is expected to be resumed soon.
According to Ion Bazgu, in spring the egg prices could rise, but not significantly, at least not up to the recent level. Last year the prices were slightly higher in the period.
Until now, in ordinary shops ten packed eggs cost 25-27 lei, while ten unpacked eggs 17-18 lei. Now the packed eggs are sold for 18 lei, while the unpacked ones for 14 - 15 lei.
