The education trade unionists are determined to stage protests during January 17-20. The information was confirmed for IPN by representatives of the Education and Science Trade Unions Federation after the January 12 meeting of the Federation’s General Council.
The education system employees will take to the streets to seek a 50% rise in salaries. Protests wil be mounted even if the Government announced it will take measures to determine the number of teachers whose salary is lower than the minimum subsistence level.
Among the main demands of the education trade unions are to increase the salaries of teaching and scientific-teaching staff by 50% as of January 1, 2017, to raise the lump-sum paid to young specialists when they are assigned a job, to annually recalculate the pensions of working pensioners and to increase scholarships by 20% as of January 1, this year.
The trade unionists said the teachers’ salary was last modified in 2014, but it is below the minimum subsistence level. There is also a discrepancy between the salary of teaching staff and the average official salary.
