The Education Ministry put forward a bill providing for the introduction of a new specialty in higher education institutions – biopharmaceutical chemistry, IPN reports.
According to the bill authors, the pharmaceutical industry during the last three decades has grown three times faster than the chemical industry in general and four-five times faster than the world industry. The concern for remedies to prevent, improve and cure hundreds of distinct diseases is one of the major concerns of the pharmaceutical chemistry. As a result, specialists in biopharmaceutical chemistry are needed to analyze and implement analytical procedures to ensure the purity and quality of medicines and to work in the area of directed synthesis of new medicines.
At world level, the biopharmaceutical chemistry as a specialty at the level of Bachelor’s degree is implemented in Canada (Laval University), Russia (a number of universities), Romania (Al. I. Cuza University of Iasi), Israel and other countries.
If it is passed, the law will take effect on June 1, 2014.
