As of this September, the salaries of teachers will be indexed by 8%, which, in terms of money, means by 262 to 800 lei, the head of the General Primary and Secondary Education Division of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research Valentin Crudu stated in the talk show “Issue of the day” on Canal2 channel, IPN reports.
Valentin Crudu said the pay raises will depend on the teacher’s rank. In lei, the salary will rise by 262 to 800 lei, depending on the qualifications of the teacher. “Those who now have the first and superior teaching degrees and length of service of over 15 years will benefit from a raise of 600 to 800 lei,” he stated. According to Valentin Crudu, the average raise will be of 450 lei in general education. The salaries of teachers who are young specialists will increase by 262 lei.
Chairman of the education trade union Mihail Lascu said the salaries of staff with auxiliary and related duties will also be indexed as from September. Proportionality should be respected in the education system and the pays of non-teaching staff should also be raised. “We asked for a 16% increase in the salaries of non-teaching staff as this category of personnel now receives a salary of only 1,100 to 1,300 lei. The number of such employees is by two thirds higher than of teachers,” stated Mihail Lascu.
There are now over 11,000 teachers in primary education and almost 27,000 teachers in secondary education in Moldova.
