Education Ministry proposes closing only schools with 5-6 pandemic flu cases

Minister of Education Leonid Bujor suggested closing only the schools where there were reported by 5-6 cases of pandemic influenza, while the other schools should work. The issue was discussed during a meeting at the Government on Thursday. A final decision will be taken on Friday, Info-Prim Neo reports. The meeting was attended by heads of district and municipal education divisions. Maria Ciobanu, the head of the Education Division in Nisporeni, said the education process must be resumed on Monday, November 16. “We cannot halt the studies every week. It is very hard for the students to catch up,” she said. Nicolae Delevca, who heads the Education Division in Edinet, proposed suspending the education process only in the classes where there are students infected with pandemic flu. “The mayors will not want to pay salaries to teachers. This is a problem for us. We do not have guarantees that the flu virus will not spread in the future,” he said. Most of the division heads said the education process should be resumed. Owing to the large number of cases of A(N1N1) flu in schools, the vacation was extended by a week. The university students were also given a week's vacation.
