Education Ministry borrows US$1m for quality education

The Ministry of Education will borrow US$1 million from the World Bank for continuing the Quality Education in the Rural Areas Project that was initiated in 2006 and for preparing another project planned for the next four years, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Deputy Minister of Education Tatiana Poting, the new project will aim to strengthen the district schools and to train the teachers and school heads in quality management. Emphasis will be laid on the setting of new standards, changing of the equipment and furniture and a broad teacher training process. The loan of US$1 million is repayable in 30 years, at an interest rate of 1%. The initial sum intended for implementing the Quality Education in the Rural Areas of Moldova Project was US$10.17 million, including the grant of US$5 million from the Academy for Educational Development.
