The Ministry of Education will devise and implement a new education modernization program. The most important pillars will include the relevance of studies, correct assessment and motivation of teachers, Minister Maia Sandu said in the program “In Depth” on ProTV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.

“We will soon put the draft strategies for the education sector up for public debates. The relevance of studies is the first pillar. We can have very good results at school, but what we learn can be irrelevant. What we learn at the secondary school, lyceum or university may not meet the needs of the labor market,” stated Maia Sandu.

Therefore, the Ministry aims to modify the curricula and include new subjects. “We intend to shift emphases, for example in such areas as entrepreneurial education, which should be included in all the stages of education, use of computer and command of a foreign language. The same should be done in vocational education,” said the minister. She added that the private sector should help the Ministry in this process as the students are future employees who will work in this sector, which has certain requirements.

Correct assessment is another pillar on which the Ministry will focus. During the year, there will be selected the future examiners so as to exclude situations of bribery or incompetence. “The teachers must regain their status. Thus, we need a motivation system that would attract young specialists. We must see what happens in teacher training institutions and in the continuous formation of teachers. The program will include solutions for the entire process,” said the minister.

Maia Sandu added that it will be a long-term program that will produce results in 5–10 years. She also said that the results in the Baccalaureate exams this year are bad, but this is only one step in educational development, which will motivate the students to learn and use their own abilities and knowledge.
