“The developments in schools during the COVID-19 pandemic will show how well the authorities got ready for the new school year,” Minister of Education, Culture and Research Igor Sharov was quoted by IPN as saying in a program on TVR Moldova channel.

According to the official, the Ministry of Education, which normally deals with education policies, in summer turned into a team that made effort to meet the requirements for reopening the schools during the pandemic.

As regards the 11 schools that are in quarantine, Igor Sharov said the schools weren’t opened to be closed in the nearest future.

“We have infections among students and also among teachers. We aim to inform daily based on data collected from education divisions, in cooperation with colleagues of the Public Health Agency, the number of infected persons, the schools that are in quarantine so as to have a general picture and to correctly inform public opinion about the developments in the Republic of Moldova,” stated the minister.

Asked about the criteria that will be used to place an education institution in quarantine, Igor Sharov said that if a student tests positive, the whole class will be placed in quarantine at home for 14 days. In other cases, the education institution will cooperate with the local public health commissions so as to take the necessary measures.

“Three teachers got infected. The local public health commission decided to close this institution. The geographic range is wide, from north to the south, and I repeat, besides the problems we anticipated, new problems appear every time and we try to put them right and to provide immediate responses.”

The minister noted the institution he heads will be making effort for all those involved in the education process to be out of any danger.
