Education institutions are in need of extensive repair, Tatiana Tverdohleb

All the education institutions in Chisinau should be extensively repaired, the head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb has told Info-Prim Neo. A sum of 100 million lei is needed to repair all the institutions, starting with the roofs and ending with the piping systems, but the municipal authorities allot about 20 million lei to the education sector a year. 75% of the money allocated from the municipal budget for education is intended for the remuneration of teachers, while another 10% for feeding the children. The rest of the money is not sufficient for carrying out repair works. Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb said the oldest buildings must be the first to be repaired. In Buiucani district, some of the buildings of the education institutions are over 60 years. Kindergarten No. 26 was built at the start of the 20th century. According to the official, the education institution managers should be provided financial autonomy in 2011. “This is hard, but if the managers not the heads of district education divisions are responsible for the money, they will know how much money they should allot and what the priorities are,” said Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb. There are over 300 schools and kindergartens in the municipality of Chisinau.
