The General Division of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport of the Chisinau Municipal Council requests to identify the unvaccinated children in education institutions and children who need to be revaccinated. The request was addressed to the heads of district education divisions, education institution principals and medical assistants in connection with the rise in the number of cases of measles in Moldova, IPN reports.
The municipal education authorities ask to inform the parents about the necessity of vaccination and to transmit data about the unvaccinated children to local family doctors. The Division reminds that under the legislation, the children are accepted into groups and education and recreational institutions only if they are vaccinated.
The Division recommends the parents to go to the family doctor for other relevant details about the risks of measles and warns about the alarming increase in the number of cases of this disease.
Measles spreads very swiftly in unvaccinated communities. A sick child can infect up to 18 children. The symptoms of the disease include fever and eruptions accompanied by cough, rhinitis and/or conjunctivitis. The consequences of measles are very serious and can even lead to death.
A number of 142 cases of measles have been confirmed by lab tests so far this year. There are also 63 suspected case. Most of the cases were recorded in August. The districts of Ceadâr-Lunga, Vulcănești, Ungheni, Taraclia, Cahul and Hâncești were the worst hit the past week.
