First Deputy Prosecutor General Eduard Harunjen will hold the post of prosecutor general on an interim basis from March 1 following the resignation of Corneliu Gurin. Maria Vieru, press officer of the Prosecutor General’s Office, has told IPN that the Law on the Prosecution Service stipulates that in the absence of the prosecutor general, the duties of this are carried out by the first deputy prosecutor general.
Corneliu Gurin tendered his resignation last week, after Parliament adopted in the final reading the new Law on the Prosecution Service, which provides for the reformation of the service. He then said that the prosecution service reform must start from the top.
Corneliu Gurin was named prosecutor general in the summer of 2013, following Valeriu Zubco’s resignation in connection with the tragic hunting incident in the Domneasca Forest that involved him and other state officials.
