The State Institute of International Relations of Moldova on November 12 launched the book “History of International Relations and Foreign Policy of the Contemporary Powers” written by the Doctor Habilitate Sergiu Nazaria.
The 95-page book was published in Chisinau with support from the Russian Embassy. It describes aspects of the international relations in the 20th century, starting with the First World War until present. The last part of the book is dedicated to Moldova’s foreign policy.
Sergiu Nazaria told the reporters that the book contains his own visions as well as visions of other polytologists and historians. The work was built on over 2,800 sources. Asked about the opinions over the Transnistrian conflict expressed in the study, Sergiu Nazaria said that the dispute will not be solved if Moldova will not have good relations with Russia. Moreover, the Russian Federation is in fact the one that can settle this frozen conflict.
Serghei Babenco, consultant of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau, said that the new book is a manifestation of the author’s praiseworthy civic courage. According to him, the opinions expressed in the book will undoubtedly produce different reactions in the society and only a person with a rich experience and knowledge can have the courage to create such a work.
The former Moldovan Ambassador to Romania Emil Ciobu said that the book is a first attempt to inform the public about the foreign policy of the great powers. At the same time, it is a starting point, a stimulus for carrying out an exhaustive analysis of the place and role of the Republic of Moldova on the foreign policy arena, with the national interests heading the list of Moldova’s priorities.
In this connection, polytologist Vitalie Andrievschi advised the author to work out a conception of Moldova’s foreign policy together with other experts. “We must be honest in front of ourselves and in front of other states. We cannot say that we are fiends with a country and become its enemies overnight,” the cited source said.
MP of the Communists Party of Moldova Victor Stepaniuc, chairman of the parliamentary commission for science, culture, youth and mass media, said that the ideas expressed in the book are pro-Stalinist. According to Stepaniuc, the book should be used as an alternative textbook that would promote the conception of Moldova’s statehood in the social life though the academic environment.
The book “History of International Relations and Foreign Policy of the Contemporary Powers” was issued in 1,000 copies.
