Edineț resident investigated for murdering his wife 13 years ago

A 33-year-old man from Edineț was arrested for 30 days for allegedly killing his wife 13 years ago. His accomplice, a 29-year-old woman from the same settlement, will be announced wanted internationally in order to be extradited and brought to justice.

According to a police press release, the man said that his accomplice told told him that his wife, who was then 19, was flirting with another man and that she should be punished for that. While under the influence of alcohol, the two killed the woman and buried her in a field near the village of Constantinovca, Edineț district.

At that time, the couple had two minor children.

Asked by IPN, Mariana Bețivu, General Police Inspectorate press officer, said that a red notice will be issued for the the 29-year-old woman because she works abroad. The woman who was murdered was considered a missing person since 2006. Her husband claimed that the woman left abroad.

Recently, the Department for Combating Serious Crimes within the National Investigations Inspectorate received information which allowed to discover the crime. A criminal case for intentional murder has been initiated. If found guilty, the persons involved face imprisonment from 10 to 15 years or life imprisonment.

The grandparents will most likely take guardianship of the children, said Mariana Bețivu.
