Edelweiss Foundation project promotes values of Moldovan literature

In 2011, the Edelweiss Foundation will finance the printing of national literary works. A relevant project was made public during the events held to celebrate 90 years of the creation of the Writers Union of Moldova. Also then, the Foundation awarded and provided aid to members of the Union, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from Edelweiss's Public Relations Department. The cooperation project between the Edelweiss Foundation and the Writers Union includes the printing of the album “The Writers Union of Moldova – 1990s”, the awarding of the prize “Opera Omnia-2009”, which was given to Spiridon Vangheli, prizes for cultural relations, prose, poetry, essay and literary criticism. All these objectives have been achieved. In the future, there will be organized the Festival of Fable and Epigrams “A. Donici” and meetings of writers and children, and launched a series of radio and TV programs for children. According to the president of the Writers Union Mihai Cimpoi, the jubilee album marks 90 years of the foundation of the first Association of Romanian Professional Writers in Chisinau. Among the founders were Mihai Sadoveanu, Stefan Ciobanu, Oleg Gulea, Nicolae Dunareanu and Pan Halippa. “The Writers Union had a number of projects and programs. The answer to these proposals is the cultural actions project that will be implemented with support from the Edelweiss Foundation,” said academician Cimpoi. “The cooperation project that we launch will be a new effort aimed at promoting the national writers. I'm sure our project and actions will be constructive and will generate effervescence. Our decision to fund the printing of a significant number of special literary works from 2011 will not only be a necessary and appropriate recompense for the talent of the people of culture, but will also enrich our cultural patrimony,” said Vlad Plahotniuc, the founder of Edelweiss. He assured that the Foundation will be the guarantor of an objective and sustained process of assessing and selecting the works proposed for printing. There will be constituted an assessment board composed of famous people of culture. The works by young writers will represent at least 50% of the total printed works. The Edelweiss Foundation is a non-governmental, nonprofit and apolitical organization, established by businessman Vlad Plahotniuc with the objective of developing equal opportunities for the talented people of Moldova. The Foundation has the mission to contribute to the development of the society by carrying out projects in culture, education, social, economic and environmental spheres.
