The economic crisis that hit Europe will have repercussions for Moldova’s economy, which is oriented to exports, including to the EU member states, Head of Parliament Marian Lupu said when asked by the press to comment on the World Bank forecasts, according to which the economic growth in Moldova in 2012 will not exceed 3%, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We must admit that the whole Europe is in an economic crisis and Moldova’s economy will be also affected as half of our exports are directed to the EU. Thus, the situation there directly influences the situation in Moldova,” stated Marian Lupu.
Prime Minister Vlad Filat said Moldova’s economy grows and this is important. “This is not the growth we wanted, but we have a growth despite the regional and world economic conjuncture. We must make effort to keep the deficit and meet the budget parameters,” he said.
He asked those who make speculations and disseminate uncertainty by saying that the salaries will not be paid in time not to mislead the people because the government is able to maintain the budgetary discipline and to fulfill the budget, while the objectives set for 2012 will be achieved.
The World Bank report shows that the developing countries, including Moldova, will continue to depend on remittances. In the medium term, the remittances may be affected by the decreasing employment rate in the EU.
