The ecologists suggest that only the authors of scientific works should take part in selective hunting in the natural areas protected by the state. The head of the Ecologist Movement of Moldova Alecu Renita has told IPN that such a regulation is needed in order to prevent incidents similar to the one that happened in the Domneasca Forest.

“The selective hunting has a sanitary purpose. Only specialists who make a difference between species should take part in,” said Alecu Renita. According to him, the existing regulations apply to all the hunters and do not differentiate between ordinary hunting and selective one.

Oleg Ciocoi, chairman of the Association of Hunters and Fishermen of Moldova, has told IPN that selective hunting is for specialists who know what species of animals should be shot. Besides being authors of scientific works, these hunters should also attend seminars to enrich their knowledge about selective hunting. Today the selective hunting involves incompetent persons who do more harm than good, according to Ciocoi.

The head of the Ministry of the Environment’s Natural Resources and Biodiversity Division Ala Rotaru said that new regulations governing selective hunting are to be drafted and all the proposals of civil society will be taken into account.

Last December, a man was wounded fatally during selective hunting in the natural reserve “Padurea Domneasca”. It involved persons who weren’t specialists in selective hunting.
