Gas supplies for winter. 3.5 million MWh bought from Europe in three months
Energocom in July-September bought about 3.5 million MWh of natural gas from the European market. Of these, the largest part, 3 million MWh, was sold to Moldovagaz for current consumption or for the winter season.
The weighted average price of the purchased gas was €35.25/MWh (or $404.92 per 1 000 cubic meters). Energocom said that in addition to its own resources, money from the grant offered to the Republic of Moldova by the Government of Norway and from the loan provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) were used. For gas purchases, 42 rounds of tender contests were held, in compliance with the rules of the EBRD loan, with up to nine companies from Europe participating in each round. 12 rounds ended with the conclusion of delivery contracts.
European Consumer Center launched in Moldova
A European Consumer Center (ECC) designed to protect and inform consumers about their rights and amicable settlement of disputes was officially opened in Moldova. The Center will assist Moldovan citizens in the case of disputes arising from the purchase of products and services from the European Union and, conversely, will facilitate access to justice for European citizens who have problems with products or services purchased in Moldova.

Grants of up to US$500,000 for developing irrigation systems
The Consolidated IFAD Program Implementation Unit (CPIU IFAD) provides grants of up to US$500,000 for the development of irrigation systems in rural areas of the Republic of Moldova.IPN reports.
CPIU IFAD is a unit created by the Government of the Republic of Moldova for the implementation of programs of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
Base rate on main monetary policy operations kept at 3.6% for half a year
The base rate applied to the main short-term monetary policy operations remains at the level of 3.6% annually, as it was set in May. Under the decision taken by the Executive Board of the National Bank of Moldova on November 5, the interest rates on overnight loans are kept at 5.6 percent annually, on repo operations – at 3.85 percent and on overnight deposits – at 1.6 percent annually.
Inflation at 5.2% in September
Annual inflation was 5.2% in September, 1.4 percentage points higher than the level reached in June. In September, the annual inflation rate remained close to the 5% target, although it outlined an upward trajectory after the downward trend started at the end of 2022.

Coordinated control at Giurgiulești-Galati border crossing point
Coordinated control will be instituted at the Giurgiulești (Republic of Moldova) – Galati (Romania) road border crossing point, on the entry into Romania. The Cabinet approved a draft decision on the initiation of negotiations and approval of the signing of the relevant agreement with the Romanian Government.

IMF to provide additional financial assistance to Moldova
The International Monetary Fund will provide additional financial assistance to the Republic of Moldova through the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the Extended Credit Facility (ECF). The money will be used to cover state budget costs. The relevant draft laws were examined by members of the parliamentary commission on economy, budget and finance.
$20,000 for women running agribusinesses
Women from both banks of the Nistru river will benefit from financial support to advance their efforts to increase climate resilience. The beneficiaries’ selection competition is organized by the UNDP project "Resilient communities through women empowerment".
Searches at travel agency suspected of landing €2 million
A tourism company based in Chisinau purportedly implemented a money laundering scheme by providing fictitious medical tourism services in Israel, the General Police Inspectorate said. The illegal services provided allegedly exceeded €2 million.

Official reserve assets almost US$82m down
After following an upward trend during several months, in October the official reserve assets decreased. Thus, at the end of last month, they amounted to US$5.599,87 billion, by $81.98 million dollars less compared to September 30, when the assets came to US$5.681,85 million.
Bill to modernize capital market approved by Parliament’s economic commission
The Parliament’s commission for economy, budget and finance on Friday discussed a draft law aimed at modernizing Moldova's capital market. The primary goal of the bill is to facilitate local entrepreneurs' access to international capital markets and to create a functional capital market within the country.
Large companies in Moldova will buy gas only on free market from 2025
Starting with January 1, 2025, large companies in the Republic of Moldova will be able to purchase natural gas exclusively on the free market, at negotiated prices, and the possibility to conclude supply contracts at regulated tariffs will be available only until the end of this year. This measure is part of a broader reform of the natural gas market in the country, which is aimed at its complete liberalization.
Legal measures to prevent delay in insolvency proceedings
The maximum period for the adoption by court of the decision to initiate the insolvency process is reduced from 20 to 5 working days. This will be possible if, in the application, the debtor declares that it is in a state of insolvency and expresses its intention to liquidate or restructure the business. This is provided in a draft to amend the Insolvency Law, which was given a first reading by Parliament.
Money sent by diaspora during 10 years exceeded Moldovan exports, Vyacheslav Ionita
The Moldovan diaspora transferred US$1.62 billion to the Republic of Moldova in 2023, and US$1.60 billion in the third quarter of 2024, in annual value. The diaspora made a large contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the transfers from abroad during 15 years were higher than the salaries paid in the country. For 10 years, the money sent home by the Moldovans who worked abroad was higher in value than the Moldovan exports, economic expert Vyacheslav Ionita said in his weekly show "Economic Analyses".

EU to provide €32 million grant for rehabilitation of North-South railway corridor
The European Union will offer €32 million in the form of a grant for the rehabilitation of the North-South railway corridor in the Republic of Moldova. The funds will be used to modernizes an essential railway section, which connects the northern and central regions of the Republic of Moldova, and also with the international transport networks.
Moldovans Consumed More Gas in October. Enterprises Owe One Million Lei
In October of this year, citizens of the Republic of Moldova consumed 45.6 million cubic meters of gas, marking a 21% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Additionally, compared to September 2024, consumption rose by 27.8 million cubic meters, or approximately 156%.
2.6 tons of walnut kernels caught by customs in Briceni
More than 2.6 thousand kilograms of walnut kernels, transported without documents proving the provenance of the goods, was detected in a car driven by a 32 year old non resident, IPN reports, referring to a press release of the Customs Service.
