Inflation follows downward trend, NBM


The inflation rate in the Republic of Moldova follows a downward trend. This declined from 34.6% last November to 18.1% at the end of April, the governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) Octavian Armașu told a news conference.

“It is also the result of the monetary policy measures taken by the National Bank of Moldova and these measures enabled the inflation to return under control, not to rise further and, as you see, it firmly returns to the inflation target,” said the governor.

Opposition and government clash over withdrawal from CIS


This is political absurdity that can leave the Republic of Moldova without an important export market for agricultural products, said representatives of the parliamentary opposition, referring to the authorities’ decision to initiate the withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). For their part, representatives of the power said that Moldova’s membership in the CIS brought considerable damage to the country, like bans imposed unjustifiably on Moldovan products and the energy blackmail applied by Russia.

Anatolie Topală: We offer 200,000 lei to young people who come to work in education sector


Minister of Education and Research Anatolie Topală said the state offers support to the young people who choose to work in the education sector. The allowance of 40,000 lei a year provided so far to young specialists during the first three years of work will be offered during two more years and these specialists will also have their rent for homes and bills paid during the first five years. This is provided in a bill to amend the Education Code that was given a first reading by Parliament.

Victor Parlicov: Gas rates in autumn will be decreased to 10-20 lei

The gas rates will be decreased this autumn and will vary between 10 and 20 lei, said Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov. According to him, the gas rates in summer will remain high as the tariff deviations accumulated earlier need to be covered. Moldova hasn’t yet acquired amounts of gas for the coming winter as the prices on the international market are expected to decline further.

BEM depositors who didn’t collect indexed sums can do it in 2023

The depositors of Banca de Economii (Savings Bank) who were born until 1991 inclusive and who didn’t receive the sums indexed at the first stage or the second stage the previous years will be able to collect the money this year. The Cabinet approved a relevant decision on Wednesday.

EBRD and EU offer Moldova €43m for rehabilitating two railway line segments

The European Union will provide an investment grant of €20 million in a project to rehabilitate two key sections of railway lines in Moldova. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will lend the government of Moldova €23 million, with the remaining €28 million of the costs of the €71 million project being met by Moldovan Railways, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the EBRD.

According to the EBRD, rehabilitating the lines on Moldova’s North-South Rail Corridor will boost Moldova’s economic development and make it easier to transport goods from Ukraine via Moldova to the European Union.

Germany promotes financial education among young people in Moldova


Financial education is promoted among young people in Moldova through an entrepreneurial game for farmers staged at the Chisinau Center of Excellence in Transport. The business game forms part of a project implemented under the 30-year-long development cooperation between Moldova and Germany.

Potatoes, onion, cabbage, carrots and beet no longer low-margin products

Potatoes, onion, white cabbage, carrots and beet will no longer be considered socially important low-margin products on which the profit margin is limited. Such a decision was taken by the Commission for Exceptional Situations.

Memorandum on interconnection of gas and electricity networks with Romania

The Government in Bucharest approved by a memorandum decisions that refer to the interconnection of the natural gas and electricity networks between Romania and the Republic of Moldova. Under the document, works complementary to the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau interconnection will be executed and the works on the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline will be extended by building a Chisinau Belt gas transmission pipeline, predictably until 2031.

Dual education in Hâncești and Strășeni is implemented with Germany’s support

Students of the Hâncești vocational school and the Strășeni Engineering College are trained based on the dual education system owing to cooperation with Germany. The close cooperation between educational institutions and companies offers the students the possibility of acquiring knowledge and basic skills at school and practical experience at companies in Moldova and Germany.
