● MONDAY, July 31

U.S. offers US$220m grant for projects in energy sector


The Government of the United States will provide US$220 million in grant funding to Moldova for implementing investment projects in the energy sector. The bill to ratify the 15th amendment to the development objective assistance Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the U.S. Government for sustainable economic growth anchored in the European integration was given a final reading by Parliament.

Minimum mandatory energy efficiency requirements in case of new buildings

The MPs gave a fist reading to a bill that stipulates minimum mandatory energy efficiency requirements in the case of new buildings and buildings subject to major renovation. It is also envisioned the certifying of energy performance of buildings and the informing of dwellers and managers of buildings or potential buyers about the energy performance of buildings.

Japan provides over €90 m loan for Moldova’s development

The Republic of Moldova will benefit from a preferential loan of 13.5 billion yen, which is equal to over €90 million, offered by the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The MPs gave a final reading to a bill to ratify agreements to implement the Development Policies for Economic Recovery program.

Producers can export seven types of products to UK without import duties and tariff quotas


The UK has abolished all the import duties and tariff quotas for seven Moldovan agricultural products.  There are: tomatoes, garlic, table grapes, apples, plums, grape juice, and cherries.

Incomes of Moldova’s population this year will pass 200bn lei, expert

All the incomes of the population in monetary form in 2023 will exceed 200 billion lei and will reach at least 215 billion lei, up 22 billion lei on 2022, said economic expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul” Veaceslav Ioniță.

Burden on businesses could be eased by about half a billion lei annually

The burden on businesses could be eased by approximately half a billion lei annually under a set of measures announced in a joint a press conference by Deputy Prime Minister Dumitru Alaiba and Minister of Finance Veronica Sirețeanu.

The package provides for the cancellation of the state registry of cash registers and tax control printers (MCC/IF Registry). This measure will apply to those who will integrate their cash registers into the Electronic Sales Monitoring System, which is already operational and to which about 20 thousand out of 60 thousand cash registers are connected.

Hotbeds of swine fever in Ungheni and Cahul

Two cases of swine fever were reported in Ungheni and Cahul districts. The presence of the virus was confirmed in samples taken from domestic pigs of a hog farm located outside Petrești village of Ungheni distrust and of a hog farm situated outside Câșlița Prut village of Cahul district.

National Tourism Office created

Moldova will have a National Tourism Office – an autonomous body that will implement policies and regulations worked out by the central authority in the field - the Ministry of Culture. The new entity will support the development of tourism, will provide services and assistance to the sector and will ensure promotion and marketing activities for increasing tourism revenues.

Registration for fourth Financial Education Camp starts

The participants in the fourth online Financial Education Camp that will take place during August 7-10 will learn about Moldova’s financial system, the new changes in the supervision of the system and other issues.

Moldovagaz in August will pay US$527 per 1,000 cubic meters of Russian gas

SA Moldovagaz in August will purchase gas from Russia’s gas giant Gazprom at the price of US$527.68 per 1,000 cubic meters of gas.

Moldovagaz CEO Vadim Ceban said the whole volume of gas bought from Gazprom is delivered to the Transnistrian region.

Transport authority expands electronic authorization service


The National Road Transport Agency (ANTA), with support from the USAID Moldova Institutional and Structural Reforms Activity (MISRA), is expanding its electronic authorization system with a module that will enable it to issue digital permits and certificates.

According to ANTA, the new digital solution will facilitate the process of issuing documents and will save the time of road transport operators and economic agents. The system will generate the series, number and QR code for a number of authorizations and certificates from national registers. These include route coordination documents, special transport authorizations, authorizations for the Periodic Technical Inspection Station activity and road vehicle weighing authorizations. The same applies to extracts from the Register of Road Transport Operators (ROTR), the State Register of Self-Employed Transport Companies, and the Register of Related Activities.

Diesel price tops 22 lei

A liter of diesel has topped the 22 lei mark at the pump, as the National Agency for Energy Regulation ANRE announced a 0.18 leu increase for Friday.

Diesel fuel will retail on Friday for a maximum of 22.08 lei per liter. For premium 95 gasoline, a maximum of 25.74 lei per liter has been set.

Moldova this year exported over 16,000 tonnes of cherries


Over 16,000 tonnes of sweet cherries to the value of more than US$22 million were exported by Moldova this year. The 2023 cherry harvesting and export season ended with a 12.5 time rise in exports to the EU compared with 2022. Moldovan cherries were for the first time exported to a number of EU member states. As many as 163 tonnes of cherries were sold to the UK.

India, Moldova to work out memorandum on cooperation in agriculture

India and Moldova will think up a memorandum of cooperation in the agricultural sector. Such a commitment was undertaken by the responsible bodies during a visit paid to India. According to Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea, the document will be aimed at such cooperation directions as agriculture, experience exchange, academic mobility for students, access to the market, phytosanitary requirements and transfer of technologies.
