The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) decided that Oleg Voronin's application against Moldova is inadmissible. Former Moldovan President's son complained to the Court in Strasbourg that his rights to private life, a fair trial and effective remedy were violated while investigating the transactions performed with his bank card abroad, Info-Prim Neo reports. “This decision shows that the present Government works in accordance with the law, does not commit abuses and does not use coercive instruments to intimidate or punish somebody,” Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase said in a press briefing on July 27. The minister stressed that all those who broke the law must get ready as they will be held accountable. According to Alexandru Tanase, no human rights violations have been reported in Moldova since September 2009 (the Filat Government was invested on September 25 – e.n.) until present. At the same time, the Government is to pay damages over a number of older cases, dating from the former administration. Vladimir Voronin's son sued Moldova at the ECHR after the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime opened a legal case over tax evasion and money laundering. The Center established that in 2008-2009, Oleg Voronin spent abroad 67 million lei (US$5.36 million) whereas his tax return for last year indicates incomes of only 4 million lei. At the request of the plaintiff, the ECHR examined the application as a matter of urgency. The Court held that there had been no violations of the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights. The decision is irrevocable and cannot be appealed to the Grand Chamber or other authority.
