The citizens of Chisinau municipality should take a break until the next elections and analyze the circumstances very well so as to assume the next vote. Not only the mayor general is actually responsible for the situation in the capital city, but the whole Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) that is represented by a number of political parties, Ecaterina Mardarovich, executive director of the Gender Equality Platform, said in the public debate “Anti-Chirtoaca referendum: to take part or to boycott it, where and why should we put a tick?” that was organized by IPN News Agency.

Ecaterina Mardarovich noted that the supporters of Dorin Chirtoaca voted him in and should also assume responsibility for the mistakes made in the management and for what wasn’t done. One should not go and vote in a referendum because a group of the CMC wants the mayor to be dismissed. It is also not fair not to allow the mayor to take part in the campaign prior to the referendum and to present his position. Moreover, if it is about immorality, as the Socialists assert in the case of Dorin Chirtoaca, the whole political class should be dismissed in such a case.

The expert said the arguments provided by the two camps – the Party of Socialists and the Liberal Party – show both of the camps want good to the inhabitants of Chisinau, but the lack of communication is the biggest problem faced by the CMC and both of the camps are to blame for the fact that a referendum has to be held now as they could not cooperate in the management of the city.

During the heated discussions within the debate, Ecaterina Mardarovich accused the leader of the Socialist group on the CMC Ion Ceban of not having political culture because he cannot listen to and cannot make constructive replies and similar defective communication is witnessed inside the municipal authorities. According to her, the politicians didn’t learn to lose and this is the biggest problem in Moldovan politics. When they lose they do not know to contribute to administration.

The expert also said that there is a blockage between the municipal legislative and executive bodies and this situation affects the citizens. The CMC does not function normally and should be dismissed given that there are no social and economic arguments in favor of this referendum.

The public debate “Anti-Chirtoaca referendum: to take part or to boycott it, where and why should we put a tick?” was the 79th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are staged with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation of Germany.
