The Cabinet has proposed a grant agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, for implementing the €30 million project to develop a regional water supply system “Moldova North Water”, to Parliament for ratification, IPN reports.
The EBRD will provide a sovereign loan of up to €10 million in two equal or nearly equal tranches. The end beneficiaries will be the local public authorities of seven rayons – Balti, Floresti, Soroca, Singerei, Telenesti, Riscani and Drochia – about 400,000 people in all.
In order to protect the environment, the Cabinet also approved the national radioactive waste management strategy for 2017-2026. The document is designed to ensure favorable conditions for safe radiological activity, in accordance with the international standards.
Financial resources for implementing the strategy will be allocated both from the state budget and from the financial assistance provided to Moldova within projects of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, other international organizations and states interested in strengthening the radioactive waste management capacities of the Republic of Moldova.
