Easter table costs at least 600 lei

Chisinau’s Central Market is overcrowded these days. People pay hundreds and even thousands of lei to prepare their Easter table, as an Info-Prim Neo reporter has found one has to spend at least 600 lei to buy products for the holiday. A kilogram of lamb is 75 lei – 20 lei more than last year. So a lamb of 5-6 kg is about 375 lei. 10 eggs were selling at 13-14 lei on Good Friday. In 2008 they cost between 16 and 19 lei. To paint the eggs, you need to buy paint which at least 2 lei. A set of five colors is sold for 15 lei. Easter cakes are sold for 10 lei, at least. A kilogram of fresh sheep cheese is 45 lei. A kilo of tomatoes is 25 lei on average, the cucumbers cost from 25 to 35 lei, while kilo of radishes is 23 de lei. Chicken meat sells for 40 lei/kg, pork and veal– 80 lei/kg, mutton – 38 lei/kg. Sausages cost between 70 and 100 lei/kg. A kilo of cheese costs 85 lei/kg. The Central Market is going to be assaulted again later next week, as the people will buy products to be given as alms in the memory of their dead relatives.
