Easter preferences of Moldovans presented in opinion poll

More than 94% of the respondents of a poll from Chisinau and over 98% of those interviewed in the rest of the country will celebrate Easter. Painted eggs, mainly red in color, will be part of the Ester meal of everyone. The meat products will be absent from the menu of some as only 77% of the polled inhabitants of Chisinau said they will eat such products. The study of the Easter preferences of Moldovans was conducted by the company IData – Intelligent Data.

In a news conference at IPN, Mihai Bologan, executive director of IData, said 62% of the surveyed citizens of Chisinau will go to church to attend the Easter Vigil, up 6% on 2017, when a similar poll was conducted. In the rest of the country, almost 69% of those polled from urban areas and almost 77% of those polled from rural areas will go to church on the Easter night.

Lent was fully or partially observed by 37% of the surveyed residents of Chisinau, whereas at country level by over 50% of the criticizes from urban areas and by two-thirds of those from rural areas. In villages, each fourth person observed Lent fully.

Most of the respondents planned costs of 500 to 1,000 lei for Easter purchases, except Low Sunday. The number of those who are disposed to spend 2,000 lei and more is lower. The poll shows the variety of Easter dishes in rural areas will be wider.

Most of the households will paint up to 20 eggs on Easter. Some 30% of the respondents from urban and rural area said they will paint 30 eggs and more.

The poll was carried out by phone during April 17-22 and covered a representative sample of 984 persons. The margin of sampling error is 3.%.
