Easter is one of the most awaited and observed feast days that commemorates the fundamental event of Christianity – the return to life of Jesus Christ. It is the most important Christian festival. As it has kept its significance, it has a special charm, being about inner peace and family reunion, said folklore teacher Ala Bodlev-Tabaranu, of the Cahul State University “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu”, being quoted by IPN.
Ala Bodlev-Tabaranu noted that we can associate this feast day with spring. The revival of nature symbolized a new life that the Christians gained through the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Chris. The people prepare for this feast according to traditions followed primarily by the elderly. The charm resides in its religious significance - there is always a chance of salvation – and in the Easter traditions, such as red painted eggs, Easter bread, the service held on the eve and the taking of fire.
The folklore teachers said that in the past, many villages staged a local dance party in the center of the settlement and inhabitants of all ages attended this event. On Easter, the Moldovans used to play on the swings after “paying” with red painted eggs for this activity. Those who did so were expected to have rich crops that year. Now the people focus on the accumulation of wealth and forget about traditions. The contemporary people are always in a hurry and cannot enjoy the inherited cultural heritage.
Ala Bodlev-Tabaranu addressed a message of congratulation to everyone, urging the students to be better and fully enjoy the beauty around and to offer love to the dear ones.
