A quake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale happened in Romania’s Vrancea region at a depth of 100 km, according to the first localization, at 2:11pm. In Moldova, the tremor had an intensity of about 2 on the Richter scale and was felt mainly in the southeastern and central districts.

Contacted by IPN for details, Ion Ilieş, the head of the Experimental Seismology Center of the Chisinau Institute of Geology and Seismology, said the earthquake could be felt only by the most sensitive persons who were in static position at upper floors of buildings.

This is the seventh quake measuring over 4 on the Richter scale so far this year. Two quakes, which occurred on January 25 and April 24, measured over 5 on the Richter scale. In general, said Ion Ilieș, the seismic activity since the start of this year has been more intense than in the corresponding period last year.
