This year’s extreme weather conditions have essentially modified Transnistrian winemakers’ schedule. For example, Kvint, the largest wine and cognac producer in the Transnistrian region, is almost done harvesting early grape yields. Last year, this process started on August 8, and this year they commenced one week earlier, reports Info-Prim Neo, citing the official website of the Transnistrian administration. According to Kvint director Vladimir Dorma, 150 people were hired in this year’s collection of grapes, and one high-performance French combine is also involved in the collection process. About 1,000 tons of early grapes have been processed in seven days, and their harvesting will end this week. “We thought we would have some spare time between collecting the early “Bianca” variety, and the classic ones; the monitoring of sugar content levels, however, indicated that collection and processing works will continue without stops. Thus, as of August 8, the last 200 hectares of this variety of early grapes remain to be harvested”, stated Vladimir Dorma. Meanwhile, winemakers and viticulturists from the left bank of the Nistru have concluded that 30% of the vineyards were affected by recent hailstorms. The losses vary depending on the grapes’ variety and position. According to Vladimir Dorma, currently 48 containers with volumes of 6,000 dekaliters each, which have been offered by an Italian firm, are being prepared for the fermenting and production of red grape wine. All preparations must be done before the harvesting of classic grape varieties.
