Early elections or forced election of president?

Asked to assess the performance of the most important candidates, Vitali Catana said Dorin Chirtoaca presented a summary of the results achieved and the future plans in the election campaign and the Communists did not manage to consistently criticize his accomplishments. According to Vitali Catana, the Communists’ campaign was built on the same things as in the previous election campaigns. Their candidate did not attend the debates and avoided confrontations. He also said that Igor Dodon tried to present himself as a good economist, but failed because he is in fact not a very good economist. Vitali Catana said the PDM’s candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau Valentina Buliga had a good performance and an appropriate social message. “I think it was a right campaign, but she was a victim of the political vote because those who wanted to vote for Valentina Buliga chose the candidate who was thought to have more chances of winning,” said the analyst. He stressed that Valentina Buliga had a better campaign than Igor Dodon and deserved a better result. The PDM has always had a lower score in the municipality of Chisinau than in the country. As to the PLDM, Vitali Catana said it paid the price for fielding a very weak candidate, who had to be later withdrawn from the electoral race. According to the exit poll results, Dorin Chirtoaca won 53.1% of the vote, Igor Dodon – 40.9%, Valentina Buliga – 2.3%, while independent candidate Mihai Godea - 1%. The other candidates polled less than 1% of the vote. With 99% of the votes counted in Chisinau, Igor Dodon led with 52% of the poll, while Dorin Chirtoacă earned 43% of the ballot.
