“If the Communists do not vote to elect the head of state, they will lose the early elections that will follow,” Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said during the program “Nasul”on the Romanian TV channel B1. “Voronin Voronin refuses a dialogue with the Alliance for European Integration, but there are Communists who have a different view. Maran Lupu has now a better rating than Vladimir Voronin”. The mayor is convinced that the early elections do not suit the PCRM. Dorin Chirtoaca said that after the method of electing the head of state was modified, Moldovan has been in constant blockage. “If early elections take place, there will be held a referendum on the modification of the Constitution or the formulation of a new Constitution,” he said. Speaking about the state of affairs in Chisinau, the mayor expressed his hope that the Government's attitude towards the local public authorities will change now that the Communists were removed from power. As to the future local elections in Chisinau, Chirtoaca said: “No one can guess the reaction of the electorate. The people often choose the person, not their potential.” Dorin Chirtoaca visited Romania's capital on the invitation of the administration of the Bucharest Faculty of Law, which marked 150 years of the foundation and which the mayor graduated from.
