EAM receives its documents after staging a 2-hour protest in front of the Ministry of Justice

The Ministry of Justice has returned on Monday, June 25, the documents of the “European Action” Movement (EAM), after more than 20 members of the party staged a protest in front of the Ministry of Justice. Anatol Petrencu, the EAM president, told Info-Prim Neo that the party lodged its constituting documents with the Ministry of Justice on November 20, 2006. Even though the Ministry was ordered by court decision to return a part the documents, such as the statute of the Movement, its programme and others, they were not returned up until Monday. On Monday, after more than an hour of protesting, the leaders of the Movement were invited in the MJ premises. Back from the MJ, Petrencu said he talked with the deputy-minister of Justice, Nicolaie Esanu, who seemed to be angry about the protests. The members of the EAM received some of their documents, with the rest of them expected to be returned in the course of the day. According to Petrencu, the MJ officials explained the delay by “the lack of communication” and by the fact that the documents were kept for a long time by the Centre for Fighting Economic Crimes and Corruption. The EAM constituting congress took place on October 22, 2006 in Chisinau. The party handed in its registration application at the end of the year, but the MJ refused to register it on grounds that there might be more fake signatures. Finally, the MJ was compelled to register the party under a court decision, which was enforced in April 2007, too late for EAM to compete in the local general elections of June 3.
