Each of the three components of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) has its own scenario for electing the President of Moldova and they do not accept each other’s scenarios for the time being. But all of them are sure that the head of state will be ultimately elected and the early legislative elections will be avoided. Discussions on the issue were held during a meeting of the Press Club staged by the Independent Journalism Center on September 8, Info-Prim Neo reports. Dumitru Diacov, chairman of the Democratic parliamentary group, said Moldova does not experience a political crisis, but there are politicians who entered this crisis and do not want to get out. “I think we do not look for the solution and a very dangerous phenomenon began to emerge – the political class is not afraid of the voters. Everyone fights for the welfare of this people, but the election of the head of state is left out. No politician today knows what will happen tomorrow and this is very serious,” said the MP. He considers that reaching an agreement is the best solution for electing the head of state. They should either observe the alliance constitution agreement or discuss with the opposition to find a solution. “There is no understanding now. We must ask the Communist Party what they want in exchange of their votes for the candidate for presidency. There are Communist lawmakers who want early elections, but there are also MPs who do not want them. If this solution does not work, the Liberal Democratic Party should meet with the Communist Party and reach a compromise to make the people happy,” said Dumitru Diacov. The leader of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet said the head of state must be elected in strict compliance with the Constitution. “We will not resort to adopting an organic law to resolve the crisis. We have respect for the supreme law. If they consider amending the Constitution, we will plead for electing the President in accordance with the constitutional norms,” he stated. However, asked if the Liberal Democratic Party agrees that Marian Lupu should be elected head of state, as the alliance constitution agreement stipulates, Valeriu Strelet said the party will respect the agreement for now. Valeriu Muntean, secretary of the Liberal parliamentary group, said the head of state can be elected only after the Constitution is amended. He stated that an agreement with the Communist Party will be welcome if it is reached in the name of the AEI.
