The e-Government Center, which aims to widen the population’s access to public services, celebrates five years of work. In the period, the rate of people’s knowledge of public services reached about 66% and over 1 million bills were sent to the population online, IPN reports.

“Within European organizations, they speak about Moldova as about a special e-governance case and make reference to the key-infrastructures we created. These are mentioned not because of their modern technological solutions, but rather to show how a country facing an economic crisis managed to advance this way,” said the Center’s executive director Iurie Turcanu.

Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet said all these services are very important for the business sector and the people. He noted that he himself makes many payments online. “This infrastructure provides electronic services for businesses and for people. E-governance is a key instrument for modernizing the public sector. Moldova follows the correct path in implementing the electronic governance agenda and is often given as a positive example,” he stated.

The latest surveys show that the rate of utilization of the online system for obtaining records of punishment is over 99%. The e-licensing service reached a record of 97% of online applications, while the e-billing service recorded over 4,000 companies and 1 million e-bills issued.

“The role of the e-Government Center in the public administration reform is very important. It is an important element when we speak about the optimization of any institution. One of the first results of the Center is the governmental portal of public services because 585 services in Moldova are provided from the central level,” said the Government’s secretary general Serghei Palihovich.

Subordinated to the State Chancellery, the e-Government Center is a public institution founded on the Prime Minister‘s initiative in August 2010. It aims to ensure the technological modernization of the Government until 2020 and the use of digital technologies by public institutions, businesses and people. The Governance e-Transformation project is financed by the World Bank.

The Center provides a series of services, such as digital signature, e-traffic, Mpay, e-civil status, special water use authorization and the register of local documents.
