Dwellers of an apartment building located on Mircea cel Batran St in Chisinau were evacuated in the evening of June 3 after the electrical cables of an elevator started to burn and the smoke filled the stair. The fire happened at about 10pm.
Press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Diana Turcan has told IPN that most probably the cables caught fire as a result of a short circuit. Nobody was hurt. About 100 persons were evacuated. The rescuers checked all the apartments so as to be sure that there was no one inside.
Another fire occurred on the territory of a plant on Columna St in Chisinau. The flames engulfed almost 200 square meters of the roof of a storehouse where there was sawdust. The fire was localized in about 30 minutes, with no one being injured. The firefighters also performed dismantling and washing works inside the storehouse.
