The duties to ensure aviation security will be returned to the Border Police. The Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense and Public Order debated at today's meeting, November 20, the Law on Aviation Security, brought in for review by the President of the country, Igor Dodon. The Committee will propose to the Parliament plenary to approve the amendments put forward by the head of state, IPN reports.

In a press release of the Parliament it is mentioned that, according to the President, the provisions of the Law on aviation security, in the wording submitted for enactment, did not accomplish the purpose of implementing the European regulations of the Agreement on the common air space between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union and its member states. They generate uncertainties and difficulties in carrying out the practical tasks of competent institutions, reduce and affect the functional responsibilities of the public bodies meant to ensure the security regime.

The President warns that the examined law distorts the duties of the Border Police, that include ensuring security, putting in place and managing security equipment, and actually transfers these duties to the economic agent which has to exercise security control, while the state body can only assist it.

The law on aviation security was passed by the Parliament on November 23, 2018.
