Less politics, but more roads, water and gas pipes and culture houses: this is the request for the central and municipal authorities addressed by the mayor and councilors of Durlesti town of Chisinau, at a news conference tackling hot issues of the locality, Info-Prim Neo reports. The local officials are angry at the way how the municipal money is spent. “If from those 1.3 billion lei – the 2008 budget -- Durlesti has got only 3 million, then we ask: do we really have to contribute to the formation of this budget? The locality does not get at least 2 % from its contribution,” says mayor Nicolae Crudu. This year, Durlesti has a budget of 12.5 million lei, of which 11.5 million go to educational institutions. Meanwhile, because of money shortage, the town has numerous training social and economic problems, as the poor water supply and drainage facilities, roads, cultural institutions, dwelling space etc. “In order to ensure the development of our locality, we need at least 30 million lei annually, and can't gather this amount from local taxes,” local councilor Stefan Sofronovici stated. The mayor's and councilors' dissatisfaction also envisage the relation with the Chisinau Council's subdivisions which, although having municipal statuses, actually work only for Chisinau City, neglecting the suburbs. “We are in an ambiguous situation – the government neglects us because we are subordinated to the Chisinau municipality, while the City Hall and Municipal Council do not find time to solve the problems of the Durlesti residents,” mayor Nicolae Crudu said.
