The president of honor of the Democratic Party (PDM) Dumitru Diacov excludes the possibility of a merger with the Party of Communists (PCRM). He developed the issue in the talk show “In Depth” broadcast on Pro TV Chisinau channel in the evening of November 23, IPN reports.
“These are only speculations. A merger between the Democratic Party and other parties could take place only by the absorption of other parties. But I would like a powerful, united, civilized and pro-European force of the left to be in power,” stated Dumitru Diacov.
The founder of the PDM considers namely the party that he represents should deal with the formation of the government and should field a candidate for premiership. “Tomorrow we will discuss this inside the party. The Democrats should negotiate the formation of the new government and should assume responsibility for the post of Prime Minister,” he stated. Asked if Vlad Plahotniuc could be proposed for premiership, Diacov said that this is not excluded, but he would also accept the candidacy of Iurie Leanca.
The Democratic heavyweight is yet less optimistic about the voting in of a technocratic government, as the Lib-Dems suggest. “Naming a technocratic and politically unaffiliated person as Premier is a nice idea, but it becomes a suspicious one when it is put forward by a party,” he stated.
On the other hand, Dumitru Diacov voiced hope that an agreement will be ultimately reached with the Liberal Democratic Party. “Many members form the PLDM were ‘raised’ by the PDM. I hope we will come to terms,” he said.
