The parliamentary Democratic Party group chairman, Dumitru Diacov, has not yet revealed whether the PDM will vote for or against the government led by Maia Sandu, however, he said that it would be desirable for the Democrats to vote in solidarity, without divisions within the group. The statement was made by the politician after several rumors broke out in the public sphere that some Democratic MPs would support the motion of censure submitted by the Socialist Party. Diacov is not 100% sure whether there will be split votes, yet he said that he wants unity within the group.
Dumitru Diacov said that it would be great for the PDM group to vote as one either to dismiss the government or against it. "This is important for the Democratic Party, this is important for everyone. We will endeavor to vote in solidarity, without admitting any kind of disruption. We won't allow the establishment of groups within the parliamentary party. After hearing out everyone and taking note of the debates, we will make the final decision", said the politician during the TV8 "Politica Nataliei Morari" program.
The parliamentary Democratic group chairman said that the party held wide discussions where every one expressed their opinions. The discussions were attended by PDM regional organization chairpersons and by MPs. According to him, the discussions were heated and the opinions were divided. "Both sides, those who want to dismiss the government an those against it, had the opportunity to express their opinions and to present their arguments", added the politician.
Dumitru Diacov said that since the motion of censure was filed, the Democrats have been in touch with both ACUM bloc members and PSRM MPs. According to him, ACUM indirectly asked the Democrats not to vote for the dismissal of the government. However, the politician said that he did not receive any signals from the bloc's leadership, neither from Maia Sandu nor from Andrei Năstase. "Of course, we expected some gesture or invitation to talks from the participants in this dramatic situation", said Diacov, adding that he wants Maia Sandu to continue carrying on her job.
Dumitru Diacov said that he does not deny that someone is currently lobbying some of the Democrats in order to vote for the government's dismissal. "I cannot deny this. This is an old tradition in Moldovan politics: divide and conquer", Dumitru Diacov said in regard to the rumors that some members of the Democratic Party could vote together with the Socialists for the motion of censure.
Additionally, the Democratic group leader said that the PDM does not intend to create a coalition with anyone from the current Parliament, however, he did not rule out the possibility that the group could hold talks regarding supporting a minority government, should the executive led by Maia Sandu be dismissed.
Today, November 12, the motion of censure of the Maia Sandu government will be debated in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. The motion was filed by the Socialists after the prime minister submitted a bill to assume responsibility for the amendment of the Law on the Prosecutor's Office. This would allow the prime minister to pre-select candidates for the position of General Prosecutor.
