The press fuels aggressiveness in society, while the trial of former Prime Minister Vlad Filat must be transparent, the president of honor of the Democratic Party Dumitru Diacov stated in the program “Fourth power” on N4 TV channel, IPN reports.
“A question appears – how aggressiveness arises in Moldovan society when it’s known that the Moldovans are actually gentle and kindhearted. This aggressiveness is fueled by the press, which serves particular political parties and these parties divide society according to geopolitical criteria,” said the Democratic heavyweight.
Asked what he thinks about the trial of Vlad Filat, Dumitru Diacov said this should be transparent. “I would like this trial to be irreproachable from legal viewpoint. I heard explanations provided by prosecutors. But these materials cannot be secret forever. The Appeals Court and the Supreme Court of Justice will follow and they can go even further. I don’t want Filat and his relatives to be dissatisfied with the way in which the trial was held,” he stated.
The politician suggested that the former President of Romania Traian Basescu didn’t deserve to become a citizen of Moldova. “It was a personal and emotional decision of President Timofti. Most of the institutions didn’t endorse such an initiative, mainly because of the criminal cases that were started against Basescu in Romania. Basescu became more active in his relationship with the Republic of Moldova after his presidency. He exploited the feelings of a part of society and presented himself as an ardent friend. The Government of Romania in the recent past did much more for the Republic of Moldova,” said Dumitru Diacov.
